In the 17th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1589 AD), Wang Yanxu, a boatman in Taiyuan, borrowed one tael and eight cents of silver from a rich man and died without paying it back. One day, the rich man saw Wang Yanxu walking into the cattle shed with a white belt around his waist. Soon, someone told the rich man that a calf had been born. When the rich man saw the white pattern under the waist of the calf, he knew that the calf must be Wang Yanxu's reincarnation to pay off his debt.
When the calf grew up, the rich man asked the shepherd to take the cow to sell, and told him to sell it for only one tael and eight cents of silver. The shepherd met He the butcher on the way, and He the butcher bought it at the price. Later, a farmer saw that the cow was very strong and wanted to buy it to plow the fields. He raised the price to two taels and six cents before buying the cow from He the butcher.
The cow was very good at plowing the fields and did not need to be taken care of and managed. However, not long after, the cow suddenly died at the foot of the mountain for no reason. The farmer felt that he had lost money and felt very regretful. He knew that the cow was originally sold from the rich man, so he ran to ask the rich man: Why do you only sell this cow for one tael and eight cents of silver?
The rich man replied: This cow is the reincarnation of Wang Yanxu who owed me money. He only owed me one tael and eight cents, so I only sold it at this price. He Butcher heard it and said with sudden enlightenment: Wang Yanxu once owed me eight cents of silver for meat, so I can sell it for eight cents more! The farmer also sighed and said: I once owed Wang Yanxu money, but now I have paid it back! So the three of them sighed together about the wonder of karma.
Through the fact that Wang Yanxu was reincarnated as a cow, the debts between him and the rich man, He Butcher, and the farmer were all settled one by one, which shows that karma is really true.
Zhang Yuan, a Beijing resident in the Qing Dynasty, raised a donkey that could walk two hundred miles a day, but it liked to kick and bite people; only when Zhang Yuan and his son rode it, it was very tame. Once upon a time, a man named Yang tried to borrow a donkey to ride. The donkey was very docile to him, so he rode it. After returning home, Yang dreamed of a man in black who told him, "I am the donkey of Zhang Yuan's family. In my previous life, I borrowed 300 coins from you and didn't pay you back. Now I should compensate you. You rode me for 280 li yesterday. I hope you can ride me for another 20 li, and then I can pay you back." Yang asked, "How much do you owe the Zhang family?" The man in black said worriedly, "A lot, a lot, I can't tell you." After Yang woke up, he really borrowed the donkey to ride again. After riding a little further, the donkey suddenly jumped up and threw Yang to the ground. After calculating the distance, it was indeed 20 li. Yang was even more surprised, so he said to the donkey very sincerely, "I understand the reason! But now it is still 10 li from my home. How can I get back without riding you? I will ride you home, and then use ten coins to buy fodder for you to eat, okay?" The donkey looked at Yang for a long time before letting Yang ride back. Later, the donkey never let Yang ride it again.
The ten good deeds are: refraining from killing, refraining from stealing, refraining from sexual misconduct, refraining from false speech, refraining from divisive speech, refraining from harsh speech, refraining from obscene speech, refraining from greed, refraining from anger, and refraining from wrong views.
The place where many sentient beings are is the place where Bodhisattvas practice pure Buddhaland. Only through the practice of helping sentient beings can we achieve the pure Buddhaland. Just like a palace, it can only be built on open ground, not in the sky. Therefore, the pure Buddha land is not in nothingness, but in all living beings.
Although the yang energy begins to appear at Zi, the cock does not crow until Chou. Although the heaven and earth are formed at Zihui, it is not until the stage of Chouhui that life forms appear when the heaven and earth meet. The rules of each day are a holographic microcosm of the cycle of the world.
Even if he showed good intentions, he would retreat in a moment. If he encounters evil fate, his thoughts will increase. -The very bad current situation of sentient beings in Jambudvipa
Among the ten good deeds, Buddha listed "no killing" as the first; among the five precepts, "no killing" is also the first.
Unobstructed: Accessible and free, without obstacles. "The Heart of Kindness Sutra" says, "There is no resentment or hostility in the ten directions above and below, so that there is no obstacle." If you can stay righteous and have no discrimination in the ten directions above and below, there will be no resentment or hostility. Therefore, it is like the wind. Like water, there are no obstacles wherever it passes. The end of "Three Refuges" also says: "Nothing is obstacle." What is "obstacle"? It’s concern, it’s knots, it’s persistence, it’s greed, it’s lingering, it’s unforgettable. Therefore, we must learn to act like clouds and flowing water, be like nectar and wind, let go of worries, untie the knots in our hearts, let go of attachments, observe impermanence and birth and death with a normal mind and an equanimity. "All actions are impermanent. This is the law of birth and death. All conditioned laws are not eternal, they all have birth and death. Real happiness comes when the cycle of birth and death is ended and Nirvana is achieved.
In his past life, the Buddha practiced in the snowy mountains and was called "Snow Mountain Boy". When he heard a Rakshasa say, "All things are impermanent, they are born and die." He was very shocked and thought it was more precious than "nectar from heaven". Should there be more words? He asked the Rakshasa to continue to say the next sentence. The Rakshasa said that he was hungry and would only say it if the Snow Mountain Boy agreed to become the Rakshasa's food. The Snow Mountain Boy immediately agreed, as long as he was given a little time before becoming food. The Rakshasa then said the second half of the verse: "Birth and death have been extinguished, and nirvana is happiness." The Snow Mountain Boy was very happy and immediately wrote the verse on the rocks and trees to benefit sentient beings with affinity. He was willing to offer his flesh and blood to the Rakshasa as his food. In order to cultivate wisdom, the Snow Mountain Boy was willing to sacrifice his life, so his blessings and wisdom were complete.
The great emperor of the South Sea is named Shu, the great emperor of the North Sea is named Hu, and the great emperor of the center is called Innocent. Shu and Hu often met in the place of Innocent, and Innocent entertained them very richly. Shu and Hu discussed repaying Innocent's deep friendship, saying: "Everyone has eyes, ears, mouth and nose, and seven orifices to see, listen, eat and breathe, except Innocent, so we tried to dig out seven holes for him. "They dug out one hole every day, and Innocent died after seven days. "Zhuang Zhou Yingdiwang"
Some has too many sexual desires. Just always recite and respect Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. Then he can be free from the sexual desire. If someone has too much anger. Just always recite and respect Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. Then he can get rid of anger. If someone has too much delusion . Just always recite and respect Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. Then he can get rid of delusion.
The truth of one reality is equal and without distinction, which is called non-duality. In the "Vimalakirti Sutra. Volume 2", the bodhisattvas expounded their own views on "entering the non-dual Dharma door". At the end, everyone asked Manjushri Bodhisattva for his opinion. Manjushri Bodhisattva believed that the "non-dual Dharma door" cannot be explained in words, cannot be understood by thoughts, and cannot be asked and answered. Later, Manjushri Bodhisattva asked Vimalakirti for his opinion, and Vimalakirti remained silent without saying a word. Manjushri Bodhisattva saw it and said with some understanding: "Good! Good! It turns out that the true non-dual Dharma door does not need to be described in words."
Self-other non-duality - oneself and others are originally one. Only by using the cognition of self-other non-duality to eliminate the opposition between people and oneself can we achieve harmony in interpersonal relationships.
Color and emptiness non-duality - existence and non-existence are not two different things in essence.
Death and life non-duality - both life and death. Life is caused by conditions, the combination of conditions; death is the extinction of conditions, the disintegration of conditions.
Understanding and practice non-duality - knowledge and behavior are integrated into one.
The unity of principle and practice - theory and cognition are consistent with life behavior.
The unity of suffering and happiness - troubles are Bodhi. Whether it is adversity or prosperity, satisfaction or poverty, it has nothing to do with the self-nature.
The unity of subject and object - the knowledge and the known are united, the mind no longer identifies with the outside world, and is no longer affected by the situation.
The unity of concentration and wisdom - the law of inaction. Do not abide by anything, nor cling to the sitting posture, only hit the "ox" but not the "ox cart", only cultivate the mind but not the body. The inner peace is in line with the middle way.
The unity of substance and function - everything is the same as inaction.
The unity of mind and law - The mind is Bodhi, and Bodhi is the mind.
If you do good or bad, retribution will follow you like a shadow. The joys and sorrows of the three realms and the ups and downs of the six realms are all inspired by the mind, and there is no hiding place.
Wang Jinying, a scholar, said: There was a scholar in Jiangning who lived in the abandoned garden of an official's family. On a bright moonlit night, a beautiful woman peeked in through the window. The scholar knew that the woman was either a ghost or a fox, but he liked her beauty and was not afraid. The scholar invited her into the room, and the woman took the initiative to approach him tenderly and affectionately. But she never spoke, and she didn't answer when he asked her, but just smiled and looked at him. More than a month passed like this, and no one knew what the reason was. One day, the scholar pulled her to find out the reason. The woman then took a pen and wrote, saying: "I am the concubine of a certain Hanlin in the former Ming Dynasty. Unfortunately, I died young. Because I was good at slandering and framing, the relatives of my family were as incompatible as fire and water. The underworld punished me and made me a mute ghost. I have been buried and fallen for more than 200 years. If you can write ten copies of the Diamond Sutra for me, so that I can rely on the power of Buddha to escape from the sea of suffering, I will be grateful to you for generations." The scholar did as she asked. On the day the scholar finished writing, the woman came to the scholar to thank him again, still writing with a pen, saying: "I have escaped from the ghost world by repenting according to the Diamond Sutra. But my sins in my previous life were so severe that I can only reincarnate with them. I have to be a mute woman for three lifetimes before I can speak."
If you do good or bad, retribution will follow you like a shadow. Don't say that you will not be rewarded for doing evil until the evil is full; don't say that there will be no reward for doing good until the good results are fulfilled. Even if it lasts for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, your work will not be lost. When fate meets you, you will receive the retribution. The joys and sorrows of the three realms and the ups and downs of the six realms are all inspired by the mind, and there is no hiding place.
Buddhist disciples are not allowed to consult fortune-telling, invoke evil spirits, cast spells, exorcise ghosts, offer sacrifices, or submit petitions to the gods and ghosts in heaven. They are also not allowed to choose auspicious days and times.
Those who observe the precepts and follow morality are the most powerful. Even the gods, dragons and ghosts respect such people. If you observe the precepts to the extreme, you will be respected and you will be lucky wherever you go. How can you be afraid of evil?
